Yoooooo I really wanna talk about this. At this point the fact that One Piece is number 1 best selling manga of 2013 isn’t that surprising. But three things that did surprise me
Bleach’s drop: As bad as some of the chapters have been as of late, seeing it drop out of the top 10 is very surprising. Even moreso when the relatively unknown terra formars (Which is insanely awesome by the way, but still obscure as fuck) and Fairy Tail managed to make it. Japan’s lost it’s interest for the most part it seems.
Hunter x Hunter in the top 10: I’m surprised by this not because I hate the manga. In fact, I adore it. I’m pretty sure it’s the best shounen out there, but the author hasn’t been active in over a year. Last time he published something was in mid or early 2012. And it STILL managed to outsell stuff like bleach and fairy tail and Jojo.
Attack on Titan #2: This is just crazy. Attack on Titan hasn’t even been out for HALF the time most of these mangas have been. Especially not the likes of One Piece and Bleach and Naruto and HxH. And yet.. 15+ million copies? I mean, you can come out with a hot anime that people get excited for and at best they’d make it somewhere in the top 10 and if they’re lucky on the lower end of the top 5. But Attack on Titan was just 2+ million away from matching One Piece. It outsold the likes of Bleach and Naruto by a 10+ million margin. Let that sink in for a bit.
